I love to bring culture to my baby girl every chance I get. I especially love it when it’s easy. I have found a creative way of bringing together various worldly culture aspects into our lives (and I have more ideas to come!). I would like to share them with like-minded busy mama Bees out there.
On a rainy afternoon or when the mood strikes us, we visit Paris through sound waves, Italy through brush strokes, and China through the written word. Indulgent, no?
You can join us too. To start, we fire up Pandora, then, flip the TV to museum mode, and finally have some fun reading and acting through kiddie, worldly books (we act out the stories… by we I mean me… #BAMlife).
Culture come atcha from every direction! Can you dig it?
Here’s how we do it.
Music – Pandora: Bee a Mom
What BAM radio all about
This station has been in the makes for the last two years. It is tweaked daily to bring maximum enjoyment for parents and kiddos alike. This means you won’t go bat-crazy listening to A-B-C songs all day long. The kid songs you’ll hear here are generally entertaining, imaginative, fresh, educational, and FUNNY! That was my goal. Just hit play on the Secret Agent 23 Skidoo for a sample of what I mean.
How BAM radio grew & evolved
I am very particular in my music. I try very hard to present what’s good and respectable. My music choices uplift, enrich, and expand horizons. Music makes my soul sing is one that makes us better people, shrink the distance between us, shed misunderstandings, and unite us as a people.
Keep in mind that it’s a forever work in progress so, if something is not to your taste feel free to skip it and if you find it necessary, let me know why a particular artist/song should be removed from the station. Believe me, I need all the help I can get. I can’t catch everything. So, thanks a million in advice. Moving on…
Samples of what you will find on BAM radio
This station will envelop you in jazz, blues, pop, funk, classical, and hip-hop genres of music from many corners of the world: Russian, Spanish, French, and Italian vibes and flares are a big presence at BAM radio.
(click play on one and enjoy reading the rest of the post to the sound of BAM radio!)
Samples of what you won’t hear
As mentioned BAM radio will not stand for crude or depressing lyrics, violent or hurtful messages, revenge plots, angry broken girls sobbing to guitars, putting people down. I also don’t find adult language in kids songs entertaining even in the slightest. I’m talking to you I Like to Move it, theme song from Madagascar…
All girls all over the world,
Original mad stuntman pon ya case man!
I love how all girls a move them body,
And when ya move ya body, and move it,
Nice and sweet and sexy,alright!
– Not a message I want my girl to hear or think is okay because it’s put to a lively beat.
On this station you will not hear cursing, negatively portraying women (or anyone else, for that matter), talk about promiscuous behavior, lyrics bout clubs/drugs/drinking or the like. It takes one crude word from the artist and they’re BOOTED!
So, I’m sorry JayZ, Fiona Apple, Miley, Rihanna etc – it’s a thumbs down for you. Now, I am not saying I don’t love me a little bit of Method Man BUT, there is a time and a place. Save these artists for your grown-up time without the kiddies and their developing brains.

Art – Chromecast TV: A museum at home
I hear the crunchy moms groaning: TV?! Yes, indeed. Now, hear me out. The power is on but the cable is off. Let me explain. A while back I had bought Chromecast for my TV to stream media. Here is Googles definition of Chromecast:
Chromecast is a thumb-sized media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. Simply use an Android phone, tablet, iPhone®, iPad®, Mac or Windows laptop, or Chromebook to cast your favorite entertainment and apps right to the big screen.
But, we don’t use it to stream or cast any media. Here is an amazing thing I discovered about Chromecast that most owners don’t know. We use the backdrop (the home screen of Chromecast) to display modern and classic works of art. I was so excited when I found this great feature. It will display the work of art along with the name of the author, the name of the work, and the location of it (like a name of the museum where you can find it) if applicable. It also shows me the time and weather so I always have that important mommy info at a glance.
My baby girl and I adore the art. We love to look at colors, composition, imaginations, and beauty of the works. It’s also a fantastic way to expand your knowledge of past and present artist. Not to mention it makes our room look like an ever-changing museum wall. Talk about culture! Here are just some of the works Chromecast will expose you and your little one to works like these:

Double Stuffed Literature – worldly readings How the Panda Says Hello
My baby girl loves to read at 13 months. She climbs on my lap, book in hand, ready to turn the pages and point out different characters that have become familiar to her (hippo, eyes, elephant are her current favorites).
I think one of the best ways to get kids to love reading is, like anything esle, by example. That’s why we try to read as much as we can: before naps and bedtime, as we eat, sittting on the potty, out at the park and so on.
With respect to books in this category, the following books have a worldly flare about them that will help expose your little one to different countries, people, languages, foods, and more!
Here is a collection of ecumenical books for toddlers that we’ve put together so far:
