Idol Gives Back

I have posted on here many times about our family’s obsession with American Idol. The first year it was on, I refused to watch it, just based on the name. That is just not Christian to have idols. Somehow we were won over, though. It is a family-friendly show. No bad language, no violence, just a few low-cut dresses and high cut skirts–nothing you wouldn’t see on a trip to the mall.

Tonight our family watched the Idol Gives Back show. Y’all, it was awesome. If you have any inclination to donate to help people living in poverty, go to the American Idol website and donate. My kids all took Ellen Degeneres’s challenge and donated a dollar each, which I matched with nine dollars each. When they heard that a mere $10 would be enough to provide medication for twenty people affected by malaria in Africa, they were convinced. It is amazing that people still die from malaria when it is so treatable.

I challenge you to give up something–the daily latte, the McDonald’s Happy Meal, the pack of Oreo cookies, the coke at the ball game–and go to the American Idol website and learn about this effort and make a donation.

I’m an Idol addict, too! I think it will be Melinda Doolittle all the way! Go Melinda! I am just glad she rid herself of that surprised look!

LOVE Melinda! Isn’t she so good! And yeah, I’m glad Simon clued her in to lose that look. It was cute at the beginning, but it got old!
