Idol…Ummmm…Shouts to the Lord?

Okay, did anyone see the opening song tonight on American Idol?? Shout to the Lord? Now, THAT was a shocker. And I LOVED it! Love the Idol Gives Back , too. Go Idol!

Totally. I guess some people were irked that they changed “Jesus” to “Shepherd” in the very first part, but I think it was fantastic.

LOL Glenn, leave it to you to be cool enough to post a youtube link! Some day I’ll be cool, too, and I’ll think of stuff like that!

Skerrib, I didn’t even notice that change in the words! I just keep thinking about where the Bible says that if we keep silent, the very rocks and stones will cry out! God can be praised by ANYTHING, and that is just SO COOL!

I wouldn’t have known about the word change either until I heard the brouhaha about it on Christian radio the next day: callers saying AI had “watered down” the song (which I’ve commented about on my blog). I only know the song from those “Wow Worship” infomercials. Or is it “Songs 4 Worship?”

Hey JATB, I just learned something from my son. On Wednesday night, they switched the words. On Thursday at the start of the show, they sang “Jesus.” I missed the Wednesday night one, because we recorded it and it cut off just before the end, so I only saw the Thursday version. Which means I’m not as dingey as I suspected!

  6. RevJATB Says:

Yeah, I saw that too. The first night they sang “Shepherd,” but the second night they sang “Jesus.’ HOWEVER, it was only the two Mormons and Kristy Lee who sang the “Jesus” line as a trio. Were they the only three who were OK with singing about Jesus? Inquiring minds want to know. . .

See, that bothered me so uber much. I can’t stand it when people take a Christian song and popularize it for the masses. Not that I’m not all for the masses loving Christian songs! It’s just…hypocritical and empty to me. I mean, let’s strike a vampy pose while we’re singin’ bout Jesus, ya know? Sorry, maybe it’s just me!

You might want to read Josh Harris’ blog where he reports some of the behind the scenes action of Christians to get the song covered:

Pretty cool, in fact! Jesus said that “the rocks would praise him” - now its the “rockers” praising Him!
