My First Job Offer
I am nowhere near the end of nursing school. In fact, I haven’t even started. I’m still stuck in the prerequisite courses (which I am enjoying, by the way!). Still, tonite I managed to receive my first job offer!!
DD4 announced to me that she plans to be a doctor, and I can be her nurse. And then she began to fret:
DD4: But I don’t have any doctor clothes. Where will I get my doctor clothes?”
Me: Don’t worry–you can buy doctor clothes.
DD4: But I don’t know how to be a doctor!
Me: You can go to school! They’ll teach you how to be a doctor, just like they’re going to teach me how to be a nurse.
DD4: Is my school a doctor school?
Me: Well, no. They don’t have doctor schools for four-year-olds. When you’re a grown-up you can find a doctor school.
DD4: I don’t know how to get to the doctor school.
Me: I’ll show you!
[Silence as she sucked her thumb, played with her "na-na" (bellybutton) and pondered that for a bit]
DD4: Doctors are boys. I’ll be a nurse.
I quickly corrected that with the name of a childhood playmate of mine who is now a doctor along with other stories of women doctors. I need to convince her to be a doctor so I am assured a job in…oh…25 years.

don’t guess you got around to discussing salary and benefits, did you?

I definitely think you should accept her offer—since you are already her doctor, nurse, caretaker, cook, playmate, etc.

I’m sure the benefits would just be lots of extra love and kisses. I’ll take it!!
Mom, you know if I take her offer to be the nurse, I wonder if I could drop some of my other job titles! Not likely….

Doctor clothes are a must when deciding to become a doctor. White is just not as slimming as it used to be.
