It’s official. Summer is here and the heat is on. Summer is the perfect time to get out in to nature, enjoy the sun, splash in some water and enjoy everything it has to offer before it’s over in a flash.
Nothing says summer like getting wet and plashing in the pool, ocean, or waterpark! So, if you’re at home with the kids on a sweltering day and they are bored out of their minds, grab your family, bathing suits, towels, and get out there!
If the pool sounds boring and you’re bored of the beach (really?) I’ve compiled a list of awesome water parks to keep you and your kids cool this summer some of which are free!
Note: Some parks are open to residents only. Please contact them directly for more information.
Just Add Water.
- Sprayground (Elmwood Park) – located at Borough Park – residents only
- Jewell Street Sprayground (Garfield) – may be for residents only
- Veterans Park Playground & Sprayground (Monroe) – only open to township residents.
- Snyder Park (Berkeley Heights) FREE
Cape May County
- Crystal Springs Aquatic Center (East Brunswick)
- Runaway Rapids Waterpark (Keansburg) – little kids area available!
- Thundering Surf Water Park (Beach Haven)
- Six Flags Hurricane Harbor (Jackson)- little kids area available!
- Jenkinson’s Breakwater Beach (Seaside Heights
- Mountain Creek Water Park (Vernon) – little kids area available!
Make sure everyone knows the agenda and schedule. Printing it and handing it out to all the goers is a good idea so everyone is on the same page – literally.
Have a meeting place and time. This is good if you have older kids or will have your party split up to have individual fun at the parks. Again, make sure everyone is aware of the place and when you will be planning to get together.
Weekends and holidays are the busy times for all places fun. Consider visiting during the week if possible. It’s much more relaxing when you’re not in a sholder to shoulder crowd.
Leave cell phones and other electronics at home. Consider bringing a notebook with a pen attached and leaving it in a common place (don’t worry, no one is interested in stealing a notebook) and jotting down notes for each other throughout the day. Puts a parents mind at ease when you see “I’m having so much fun, Kyle @ 12:45” written moments ago.
Don’t bring tons of stuff. This might be impossible if you’re traveling with babies or young kids. Scratch that, it IS impossible. But if you have older kids, think light. Lockers are generally available throughout all these parks but they typically run about $6 per day.
