Beauty & Purity with Houseplants and Toddlers
I love a pop of green and nature indoors. I love it so much that parts of our house look like jungles and it almost looks like a toucan just might peek out to say hello. Indoor houseplants provide beauty, fill up your home with warmth, and, if you pick the right ones, provide your home and family with clean, purified air while removing toxins. Yep, you read that right… they clean the air for you!
Carbon monoxide (that sneaks into your home, especially if you have an attached garage), formaldehyde (comes from things like insulation and carpet adhesive just to name a few), trichloroethylene (for most people almost all TCE exposure comes from indoor air), and benzene (that can originate from outdoor air and also from sources indoors such as building materials and furniture, attached garages, heating and cooking systems, stored solvents and various human activities) are just a few of toxins often found indoors. But don’t fret. Adopting some indoor plants with good intentions can help you purify and clean the air in your home.
When I am selecting friendly houseplants for toddlers, I like to be sure that the plants of my choosing are non-toxic, are easy to take care of, and can withstand a bit of neglect because, let’s face it, plants are great but far from the most important thing that I think about throughout the day.
Additionally, getting your tot involved in caring for the plants will teach them responsibility, compassion, and a love for nature.
