The sound of a crying baby consistently hits in the top 5 worst sounds in the world. I thought it would be for me as well so I walked through my pregnancy readying myself for the sleepless nights and endless hysteria (if Bean was to be anything like her mother, that is; thank you mama for putting up with me). It’s not like I was telling myself anything us pregnant girls haven’t heard before. But never the less I repeated to myself this mantra in hopes of not being completely floored when she finally arrived stole my heart.
There are sleepless nights and sobbing baby in your future and this is good. A baby will learn how to sleep and provide her own method of calm. Until then, you are the world to this little thing. The whole entire world. This is good. This is the way it’s supposed to be and it is good.
These words remind me to slow down even in the less than perfect moments and take it in. Observe. Look for wisdom to take along. These words still carry me through; not just with crying but with life in general. “Slow down and smell the roses,” as they say. You’ll probably learn something about yourself as you go along through the list.
Power to you mamas and papas!
