Bee a Mom Reviews the “EEEEW-bie”
Dang, did I give it away, lol.
After doing my due diligence in the research department, when it was time to pick a diaper waste basket I optimistically went with the highly reviewed Ubbi Diaper Pail. My purchase was, as always, made on Amazon.com and was done so around May of 2014. It is now about the 9th month mark of daily use and here are my thoughts on one of the top rated diaper pails – the Ubbi.
When I received the Ubbi I was thrilled. It was sleek and slender and I wanted to love it so badly! Ah, Ubbi why you hurt me so bad?!
How my Ubbi is used
The months where the baby is breastfed or formula fed the smell is tolerable. Now that my little one hit the 9 month mark and has been on partial solids (vegetables, fruit, cereals) and has established that ‘adult’ looking stool the odor omitting from the inside of the pail is horrid!
My kids call it the eeewbie!
It is emptied at least once every two days and has a huge cup of baking soda at the bottom of it at all times. No matter what I do, it stinks! Even with my flushing the stool down the toilet and only disposing of wet diapers in the Ubbi – it stinks!
I’ve left it outside, scrubbed with bleach, hosed it down, and I have come to the conclusion that it is just like every other diaper pail out there – it stinks! I paid over $80+ which I think is current with todays price on Amazon.com and can’t help feeling duped. Ag! I hate feeling duped – it stinks!
Be careful, your Ubbi is bound to start developing an ugly odor issue around the 6th month of daily, normal baby use. It’s offensive!
And I am not the only one that thinks so. After talking with some fellow mamas and owners of the Ubbi diaper pail, we all agree that this pail came up short where it mattered and struck high on the dollar end. Not a good combo! Need I say more?
Reasons parents dislike the Ubbi
- it absorbs the smells even though it’s advertised not to!
- snags the bags when more than half full
- the lock mechanism isn’t exactly baby proof
Sorry Ubbi! I really wanted to be a fan. But when it came to pros and cons, the con of the overwhelmingly disgusting smell undeniably outweighed the pro of a very stylish diaper pail. Style is definitely a second when it comes to a dirty diaper smell.
So, when it comes to the Ubbi, I would honestly say save your money and get any old diaper pail that fancies you because they will proabbly all eventually absorb the stink. I am back in the market and will keep all of you posted on where this leads me.
I wonder, is it too early to potty train?
Help me find a diaper pail of my dreams!
