DS13 and DS11 know all about DS15 and his special needs. DS7 knows most stuff but doesn't understand it all. And this is the first time I've ever seen DD3 clue in at all. In fact, DS15's cousins didn't even really begin to ask questions until they were probably around 9 or 10!

It is a special thing to see siblings stick up for one another. DS13, who is usually not confrontational at all, will tell his friends NOT to use the word "retarded," because of his brother. And yes, like you DS15 is really just a fairly annoying older brother to his siblings! :P

I am so glad you shared that qoute. Our four year old has CP - I found her at 4 weeks not breathing and blue, but we don't know which came first). A few weeks ago there was a problem with a neighborhood child and our dear "Princerella" (that's what she calls herself). Her oldest sister (10y) stood up for her and brought her in to me just as she would have for her 6 year old sister or her almost two year old brother (she would have let the 8 year old brother go at it alone). Our children didn't understand why she was being picked on and asked what that child meant. We explained that she had difficulty moving and sometimes understanding others. The response was, "we never knew she was a special needs child." Remarkable. They just always treat her like a sister, a sister who sometimes annoys them like they do each other, just another sibling.
